It’s still important to regularly wash your car with a pH-neutral car shampoo, avoiding abrasive cleaning tools, and thorough drying with a soft microfibre towel to avoid unnecessary scratches.

A great way to keep on top of the unavoidable environmental contamination build up over the years is to schedule periodic maintenance details to your ceramic installer, so they can use the more sophisticated chemicals to remove iron, sap and fallout build up without damaging the paint or ceramic. It’s highly recommended to avoid automatic car washes as the touchless washes rely on harsh chemicals and the brush type car washes are even worse with their sand paper like scrubbing brushes blitzing your paint.

Yes, ceramic coating can be highly beneficial for older cars. It helps restore shine, adds re-value value, protects against further paint damage, and makes maintenance easier. Applying ceramic coating to an older vehicle can revitalise its appearance and extend its longevity. Older cars will need a good cut and polish or paint correction to get the paint looking as good as possible before ceramic coating as scratches and imperfections can’t be polished once the ceramic has been applied.

No, it’s recommended not to use waxes on top of ceramic coating that also applies to wash and wax type car washes. It’s also recommended NOT to use polishes. It’s best to use a good quality Ph neutral car wash that has no waxes or sealants added. High quality ceramic coatings like Cquartz don’t require special car washes but they are recommended to use good quality car wash that is safe for coatings. A good one we use is Carpro reset, its highly concentrated formula offers excellent value and it works great on ceramic coatings.

Polishes contain light abrasives that will damage the gloss of a ceramic, it also means you can save your time and shoulders by not polishing your car now. The best thing you can do to look after your fresh ceramic is a good washing and drying procedure. For those people that want to do something extra there are easy to use spray top up sealants that are designed and work with modern ceramic coatings. They are easy to use and quick to apply with a spray on wipe off sealant like Reload 2.0. Reload offers extra slickness and protection to your coating, it will extend the life of your coating as it provides an extra barrier. It’s not necessary but we use Reload on almost every car as it is just a time effective and easy way to add extra gloss, and protection to paint. For an extra 5 mins after the drying car we think the extra bit of time is totally worth it.

Yes, you can use a pressure washer on a car with ceramic coating, just wait 7 days after it’s applied, so it reaches its full hardness. It’s actually the best way to wash your car now, you’ll find that the dirt and grime just flies off the paint now. It’s one of the most underrated performance benefits of a quality applied ceramic coating. If you want to take it further you find snow cannons are also hugely popular with ceramic coated cars as the foam does most of the cleaning. However, it’s essential to follow proper washing techniques and maintain a safe distance. The best advice we can give is really thorough drying of your car once it’s washed. We are based in Brisbane and the town water has a high mineral content so drying the car really well ensures you don’t get water spots built up from Brisbane’s high mineral water. We use filtered water at our shop and high pressure cleaning for all our cars and never have issues with paint unless the paint is already old and peeling which is unavoidable.

It’s advised to wait at least 7 days before washing your car after ceramic coating. This curing period ensures the coating reaches full hardness. Light dust on the paint is absolutely fine and it’s best not to touch or use waterless wash type products. Rain water is also 100% okay, as it is almost pure water it wont bake minerals on to the paint. You want to avoid hosing the car down and not drying it, town water in Brisbane is mineral heavy and this will bake the minerals onto the paint, even cars without ceramic will suffer water spots so its best to avoid hose rinsing and not drying. It’s better to not wash your car then a quick hose and no towel dry. Baked on minerals from town water can be very difficult to remove and will affect the gloss and performance of even the best ceramic coatings.

Ceramic coatings just offer more durability, gloss, easy maintenance, and chemical resistance, along with easy maintenance, and in today’s time-poor world this makes more sense then Bi weekly car waxing.

While DIY ceramic coating kits exist, the learning curve is steeper than most Youtuber care to point out. The preparation is the most important step and acquiring the correct equipment and tools adds up to more than getting it done in the first place. In a professional protection shop here at Scrubs the average time to prep and coat a new car with experienced detailers takes between 6-8hrs. The knowledge of flash times based on temperature and humidity ensures we get the thickness coat of ceramic on your car. We also use a custom built dust-free coating booth with a multiple colour temperature light light tunnel to ensure we don’t leave high spots or cause marring in the process which will diminish your coating and needs to be redone. Although it is possible to DIY ceramic your car I would leave it to the serious car enthusiasts only.
